History of the Stamford Santa Fun Run
The origins of the Stamford Santa Fun Run date back to 2008 when only a handful of runners enjoyed the event in the grounds of Burghley Park. Over the years the number of entrants has increased significantly, and in recent years, the numbers have grown to 1,500 entrants. In 2023 it was a sell-out before the start of the event.
The SSFR is an annual “must-do” family event attracting people of all ages and fitness levels – it provides a graceful lead-up to the festive season. The SSFR has become the largest Santa run for miles around - as well as a large contingent of participants from Stamford people come over from Peterborough, Rutland, Bourne, Grantham, Market Deeping and further afield.
The idea of the SSFR emanated from the Stamford Burghley Rotary Club in their aim of raising much-needed money for local good causes such as the scouts, enhancing recreational facilities for young persons, etc. Consequently, over the years, they have raised a substantial sum of money for local charities which benefit local people. Well done Rotary for a great idea!
The Stamford Striders running club took over the organisation and hosting of the SSFR in 2020 in association with the Stamford Burghley Rotary Club. The 15th event took place in 2023 raising more than £19,500 for our three designated charities.
The SSFR is able to raise monies thanks to the kind generosity of local companies and businesses. Without them we could not support our designated charities. Refer to our sponsor page.
The Stamford Striders is looking forward to hosting the 16th SSFR on Sunday 8th December 2024 in the grounds of Burghley Park.
